Monday & Sandy

Today, what can we say about this day? Today we did not go to the school because there was a hurricane. Yesterday, some other  students and I went to New York and came home very late. so this morning we all got to sleep in. When I woke up i toke a shower and then had breakfast-lunch. I was very worried about the hurricane so I felt like crying. Immediately I  skyped with my mum and she said to me that I shouldn't be worried about it, because in America it is normal  and I could see that my mum was calm. We saw that it was raining and the wind was blowing very hard. After I finished skyping my mum I did a part of my homework. Next  I talked with my father and with my mother again. My mother said to me that she was not very concerned for me because she knew that I will be OK. Then I had dinner with my host family. I then played a game with Maddie and her sister Allie. Finally I am now watching a movie and when it is over I will go to bed. I have a message for all the parents: Don't worry, all it's OK.

Sandy

Sandy makes landfall around 20:00 hours today.

Sandy's no longer a hurricane, but it still packs a lot of water and strong winds.
The massive storm was downgraded just after it barged ashore in southern New Jersey, bringing 90-mph winds and a roiling wall of seawater as it moved inland and north toward New York City. It sent 90-mph gusts through the Wall Street canyons and water surging to a record 13 feet in Lower Manhattan, threatening to flood the subway system and prompting to cut power to part of the area to avoid storm damage.

Here in Maryland we are experiencing strong winds and rain but not as bad as in the north areas. The post-tropical sorm is supposed to weaken in a few hours.

Some people decided to tahe advantage of Sandy and ride the huge waves.

Sunday activities

Today, Sunday, the exchange students have done different activities with the host families:  some have gone to one of the Malls in the area, others have visited  places in Washington, DC  and some have gone, for the day, to New York city. They are now returning from the trip.
In my case, I’ve had  a really good time. In the morning, after breakfast, I went to the church to volunteer. I went with my exchange student Stephanie with kids around 6 and 7 years, and we played games, we painted pictures about our worries and then we threw them away, we sang songs ... I had fun there because I love staying with children and doing volunteer work. After that, we went to the mall and we had lunch there. We had lunch in one Japanese restaurant and then we went shopping!!!  We ate a frozen yogurt and then we went back to the house.
We're having a long weekend because of the storm, we will not be having classes on  Monday and Tuesday! We're having a great time here, thanks Good Counsel !

Large Community

Today we have been introduced to the entire school in a morning assembly (Large Community) by our exchange students.

All the students and faculty members attended the meeting. It started with a prayer and with The Pledge of Allegiance:

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Later, we have taken some classes with them and at the end of classes some of us have gone to pick some pumpkins so as we can decorate the house for Halloween, and others have gone to buy their Halloween’s costume at the mall. At night, we have gone to Field of screams, which is a place where people go and have scary moments, but it has been fun.
We all are enjoying this great experience!

Visiting Washington, DC

Today we had an amazing day because we went to visit Washington DC, the astonishing capital of The United States of America.

At first, we met at Good Counsel and we were so happy because some of the American girls; Maddie, Marie and Maggie came with us today, so we have improved our English. Then, we caught a school bus in the high school and after that we took the metro to the centre of the city.
When we arrived at the city we went to the National Mall of Washington. We decided to go to two important museums of the Smithsonian Institution and at first, we went to the National Air and Space Museum. It was fantastic and we could see a lot of spacing artifacts and all of their history. The five most important things in this museum are the touchable Moon Rock, the Apolo II Command Module Columbia, the Skylab Orbital Workshop, the Apollo Lunar Module, the Boeing 747 Nose and ,for kids, a gallery called How Things Fly. We took a lot of pictures and we had a good time there.
After that, we went to the National museum of Natural History and we were so excited because it is the museum from the movie " A night at the museum 2". We liked it so much because there were a lot of galleries and different animals to see. We also saw the Hope Diamond, it was so pretty and flashy.
After visiting both museums we ate our bag lunches and some people bought fries because they were more hungry.
To finish the trip, we went to the Washington  Monument that is so tall and awesome. We saw the Lincoln monument and the White house but from far away because we did not have enough time to see the rest of the monuments like Martin Luther King, Jefferson, etc. We returned to the high school and we met our exchange student.
In the afternoon everybody did their extracurricular activities. Lizzy ( my exchange student ) and I went home, we walked around her neighborhood and she showed me her Elementary school and her swimming pool. Then, we came back to the house and we made pizzas for dinner. That was so funny because our pizzas were deformed!
This experience is incredible and we are so lucky to be here, we're having a good time and we don't want the trip to end.
